Halloween on the Bluff

Halloween is right around the corner and for some this creates a feeling of anxiety and panic. The decision of what to be for Halloween is, for some, as big of a decision as who to vote for in the upcoming election.

This holiday is reminiscent of Darwin’s survival of the fittest; however, Halloween is survival of the most creative. Sure you could be a cat for Halloween, but that can definitely earn you a trophy for the world’s most generic Halloween costume. Or maybe you could be a football player….along with hundreds of other Halloween-goers that will be taking to the streets of Southside this weekend.

So the question still remains: what are you going to be for Halloween? This question does not have one general answer.  It is left open for you to use your head and figure out a costume that will trump all costumes of Halloween past.

Do you lack creativity? If so, you can go to the Goodwill and you will find countless pieces of clothing that can turn themselves into really creative costumes.  You can be anything from a hippie to a gypsy for just a few bucks.

Are you single? No, I’m not asking this question as a plug for a dating site. This question may open the gate that leads to your Halloween costume. If you are single, you have the opportunity to either wear a costume independent of your friends or collaborate with your friends to wear a group costume. For once, being single doesn’t have to have the negative stigma. Being single during Halloween allows for many costume options for yourself or your friends.

On the other hand, if you have the old ball and chain with you on Halloween, you and your significant other can wear a cute couple’s costume. Bonnie and Clyde, Danny and Sandy from Grease, Fred and Wilma Flintstone are just a few of the couple costume possibilities that are out there.  It is up to you to figure out which costume best fits your personalities.

As you can see, finding a Halloween costume doesn’t have to be a chore.  All that it takes is a little planning, a little creativity and some ingenuity to find a costume that will leave your friends talking (in a good way) about your outfit.

Happy Halloween Duquesne!
